Nestled in the heart of the Wine Lands region, Helderberg Trails is a must-visit destination for mountain biking enthusiasts. With a variety of trails that cater to different skill levels, Helderberg offers the perfect setting for anyone looking to push their riding abilities while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.

Make Our Loops Your Own

We currently offer four distinct loops, which can be combined to create a ride tailored to your preferences:

• Green Loop (Beginners)

  – Currently under construction, this 2 km route with a 70-metre ascent is perfect for beginners seeking a gentle introduction to mountain biking.

• Blue Loop (Beginner/Intermediate)

  – A 4 km loop with a 150-metre ascent, ideal for those looking to advance their skills.

• Red Loop (Advanced and Experienced)

  – A thrilling 15 km loop with a 700-metre ascent designed for seasoned riders. Although it may seem short, the Red Loop’s elevation gain makes for a 1.5-hour ride. A 12 km bailout option with a 500-metre ascent is available for those who need it.

Riders are encouraged to mix and match loops to create a personalised ride. The Red Loop offers several variations for those wanting to discover new challenges on the mountain.

Enduro, E-Bike, and Downhill Adventures

For adrenaline junkies, Helderberg Trails boasts exhilarating Enduro lines and world-class downhill tracks. Designed by Jan Van Schalkwyk and Andrew Neethling, these trails are perfect for those looking to test their limits and experience the ultimate rush on two wheels.

Family-Friendly Facilities

Helderberg Trails isn’t just for the riders; it’s a destination for the entire family. With ample parking, braai facilities, a petting zoo for the kids, and a kiosk serving fresh coffee, breakfast, and treats, there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy while the mountain bikers hit the trails.

Continuous Improvement

We are dedicated to improving and expanding our trails. The top half of the mountain caters to beginners and intermediate riders, while the lower third is being revamped with enhanced flow trails and singletrack climbs. Our kiddy loop is also getting a facelift to ensure younger riders can join in on the fun.

Permit Information

Wine Lands South and Wine Lands Regional permit holders can access Helderberg Trails without any additional payment. For those without a Wine Lands permit, you can purchase a permit at the kiosk at Helderplaas or The Hanger Bike Co.
