Understanding Permit Numbers

The Wine Lands Trails membership and permit numbering system is underpinned by a robust backend solution designed to streamline the sales and renewals of Wine Lands memberships and subsequent issue of permit numbers.

Trail Permits: Regional and Collection-Based Numbering

The system assigns unique permit numbers for each membership, structured to reflect key details about the permit type, collection location, and year of issue.

Permit Types

1. Wine Lands Regional Permit

The Wine Lands Regional Permit is the most comprehensive option, granting access to all the affiliated trail networks. This includes:

  • Wellington (Wild Boar) Trails
  • Paarl Trails
  • Plaisir
  • Franschhoek
  • Banhoek Conservancy
  • Muratie
  • Wine Lands Cycling Club
  • Spier
  • Helderberg Farm
  • Stellenbosch Trail Fund
  • Jonkershoek
  • Bottelary Hills Conservancy
  • Van Loveren Trails
  • Grabouw Forest Trails
  • Oak Valley
  • Elgin
  • Fruitways Farms

This permit provides access to over 1,300 km of trails, offering a diverse range of experiences for outdoor enthusiasts.

2. Wine Lands North Permit

The Wine Lands North Permit focuses on the northern trail networks, including:

  • Wellington
  • Paarl
  • Franschhoek
  • Banhoek

This option is ideal for those who primarily explore trails in the northern regions.

3. Wine Lands South Permit

The Wine Lands South Permit covers southern trail networks such as:

  • Stellenzicht
  • Ernie Els
  • Spier
  • Dornier
  • Faure
  • Helderberg Farm
  • Somerbosch
  • Long Ridge
  • 96 Winery Road

This permit suits individuals who frequent the southern trails.

Permit Number Prefixes

Permit prefixes are used to differentiate types:

  • R: Regional permits.
  • L: Location-based permits (South/North).

The permit type is followed by the membership period, for example 25 for 2025. At this point, your number is R25 or L25.

Collection Location Codes

Each permit number incorporates a prefix for the designated collection location. This ensures that the origin of the permit is traceable, which is especially helpful for logistics and user support. Examples include:

  • SW: Specialized Somerset West
  • SB: Specialized Stellenbosch
  • P: Paarl-based locations (e.g., Specialized Paarl, Cycle 4 Life, Cycle Lab Paarl, Kroff Cycles, Adventure Cycles and Rhebokskloof)
  • FWV: Bootlegger Franschhoek

You permit number now becomes (for example) R25SW for a regional permit valid for 2025 with Specialized Somerset-West as the collection location.

Number Assignment

Permit numbers are dynamically allocated from a central database. The system will allocate the next available number from your chosen collection location.

Once the permit number is appended, your number is now (for example) R25SW-9999.
